A lot of the young men around here go for the dropseat look. They walk with their legs spread wide apart and their hand holding their crotch. And every time I see them waddling that way I immediately think of baby penguins who have to pee really bad. So no, not sexy to me at all, but funny.

I wonder, does is mean you’re over the hill when you’re so busy cracking up you forget to look at their exposed underwear?

I’m glad our school has a dress code. Makes it very easy to say, “No. That’s against your school dress code.” (Oldest daughter tries to wear beloved jeans after holes appear in knees. Even after we buy her new ones. They are not the old, beloved jeans, but dress code says no holey pants.)

OMG. You are so right. About a year ago, I was walking into the library, and this young guy rushed to get ahead of me, revealing extremely saggy jeans…and no underwear! I felt violated. So gross. Was he flashing me? Shudder.

But that’s so right. For me, if I can get a book done quickly (some take two months) it’s not a big deal. But the ones that take longer and longer to write you get to the point where that fear can stop the production all together. I think that’s why I have so many open WIPs.

I think the monotony of the process is what triggers a slump. Especially if you’re not under contract.

AMEN! Being under contract is GREAT incentive…I think thats a part of my problem. The next couple of projects are going to have to be completed manuscripts because they’re new genres and will probably come in at a hefty 100k (easily even!!) and a part of me thinks, “What if I put all that time/effort and they don’t sell?”

I know I know….that’s the wrong attitude!!! but there it is.

I make myself write all the time. With a timer, with rewards, with threats, with bribes. The carrot approach is better than the stick; you can only whip those ponies for so long.
