WWD: Writing While Dumb

So I was having trouble with a character’s internal conflict in the book I’m revising.  Another writer read my story and basically laid it out for me in less than a paragraph. (waves @ Mel)  The thing is, she only told me what I’d already written on the damn page—and she said as much.

The core elements were right there in front of me!

Talk about stoooooooopid.

But that’s not my worst example of WWD.  A couple years ago, I was suffering from the block. I had a character with a terminal blood disease, and after surfing the internet far and wide, I couldn’t find ONE illness that completely fit my criteria. Days pass and nothing turns up. I went into a funk. I mean, bad. Depression. Mood swings. Snapping at DH and the kids. It wasn’t pretty.

Then the light bulb FINALLY lit, and a voice in my head screamed:

Make up your own blood disease, dummy!

Well, duh ….

Care to share any of your own WWD experiences?
