Just another damn group blog!
So, I don’t know what made me look into it, but the other day I was scrolling through my DVR (as I’ve said many times before–I *heart* my DVR so this may come as no surprise) and lo and behold, most of my (not the family, just mine) series recorded regularly shows are cop/spy shows. As a matter of fact, if you discount the reality type shows (SYTYCD, GH and it’s spin offs, etc) all—being at least 12—but two are cop/spy shows.
I really don’t know what that says about me *gulp*.
It was really brought home when the 8-yo walks in and says, “You watching another cop show?” And yes I was. I usually get up two hours before the kids in the morning so I have breakfast and coffee and watch the DVR until one of them comes in to use the XBox 360 (then I don’t get that TV again til the next morning).
As a teen my FAVORITE move was Die Hard. I love movies that go BOOM!
Some I think is because I am always taking mental notes for books (lately—can’t say what my excuse was at age seventeen). And most of those shows are like a puzzles–and I love puzzles. You have to figure out the whos, whats and whys before they are revealed in the dump at the end.
I did have a deep desire to be a police officer when I was a kid—I wanted to work in forensics WAY back before it was trendy and every third show on TV. And I could still do it–I still have that desire, so maybe that’s what my watching selection reveals about me.
I heard someone once call it a guilty pleasure. I don’t know that I would call it a guilty pleasure. I surely don’t feel guilty watching them, but they are a total pleasure to me. What does your viewing habits say about you? (Granted, I realize the McD-household does have an unusally active viewing routine–most could not compete with us!) Are they guilty pleasures, or regular old pleasures? And do you have a variety of shows or one main focal point? Tell me, I might find a new show to watch… (Hey, I picked up Haven—which is a cop show—from Tanya mentioning it a while back)

‘The Gates’ is a sort of paranormal cop show. I like it so far. The initial episode of ‘Covert Affairs’ was good but it’s not a mystery. The DVR is terrific.

I like cop shows. And lawyers’ shows. So naturally, was a BIG fan of “Law and Order” in its heyday. Haven’t found anything to replace it so far.
And I like a good medical show. “House” is my fav, also like “Grey’s Anatomy”.
Watched one episode of “Haven”, not enough to judge but wasn’t overwhelmed. Haven’t seen “The Gates”.
Do love “True Blood”, although this season isn’t living up to the first two so far.

Have seen snippets of “The Gates” but not a whole episode yet. Did watch “Covert Affairs” I like the show itself but there’s something about Piper Perabo that doesn’t click with me with her in the roll… maybe seeing too many of her earlier films and such and I am just not *quite* beliving her as a spy/super agent, dunno
One show that the first episode was not the best to me was “The Good Guys” but I tried again and I actually *really* like that show. Then again, I really like quirky and Dan is a riot!
And “The Glades” Like that show too!

Law & Order was a staple here for a few years. We watched the spin-offs when they first came out (for the first 2 or 3 seasons, don’t know why/how it fell away)
Saw every episode of NYPD Blue.
I am not sure about the new Hawaii 5-0; Alex O’Loughlin is *HAWT* but I wastched that show’s reruns as a kid with Jack Lord

Just thought of something… thinking back to the shows that my mom watched regularly when I was a kid, only two stand out: “Beauty and the Beast” and “Scarecrow and Mrs. King”
B&B she was the DA and there was an added level of mystery w/ the whole underworld and whatnot. S & Mrs.K now that was a great quirky spy show.
And I saw every episode of “Hart to Hart” (even have the first two seasons on DVD) as a kid

LOVE The Gates!!! Maybe not terribly original but I do love it! Rizolli and Isles (so far so good), and (don’t laugh) Unnatural History – it’s a kids show but I like it!

Saw Rizolli & Isles advertised all over the place, but dunno didn’t spark anything in me to watch yet. The #4 kiddo loves Unnatual History (he’s a lot like me… so I should maybe check it out too
)

I do and I will
…ooh one show I wished I’d caught from the get-go is Leverage. Haven’t seen it (really hate starting in the middle of things) but it sounds like a great premise.

I really like ‘The Good Guys’ too, Dennie. I have to watch it alone because it’s one step beyond to my wife.
The DVR is holding ‘The Glades’ for me.

Like “Rizolli & Isles” so far, but think it should just be called “Rizolli”. The Isles character isn’t clicking with me at all, & seems to serve little purpose in the show.
And don’t seem to feel inspired to watch the summer fare. Rookie cops, mature-cop & young-cop combo, new cop in southern town, blonde girl-next-door becomes super-spy (hello, Alias)…haven’t all these been done to death?
And they’d really have to woo me to watch a new Hawaii Five-O. Jack Lord was the MAN (book ‘em, Danno).
