So when I first started writing (for publication) and started meeting “real” authors my heart did the little pitter-patter when I came across folks who I’d read their books and never in a million years imagined being in the same room with.

I’m an uber-star-stuck gal (hence my backstory on THE COWBOY PLAN).

Cruising through FaceBook, I noticed a post in the news feed and I sighed. It was an author I had a major writing crush on. I think I’d read 6 or 7 of her books before I went to my first conference. Who should be the First-Timer’s Orientation speaker? (the reciprient of my recent sigh) Miss Suzanne Brockmann.

Needless to say I sat through the entire thing and tried not to stare like an-uber-fan.

When I came home I read twice as many more that summer.

Anyhoo…

Seeing that FB post got me thinking, I have had several writing crushes. Of course there is La Nora; she was one of the authors who I enjoyed so much that I wanted to become a writer as well (I have made a respectable dent in her booklist). As well as Karen Robards–I think I have managed to read every single book with the exception of the two most recent–only because I got WAY behind in my reading.

As time has progressed, so has my crush list (reminds me of high school  I’m not fickle, my tastes just change over time, that’s all) but I think it’s neat that I still get that pitter-pat when I come across authors who I have admired. Don’t get me wrong, the three ladies I named, I would not be able to speak with even now. I have tried, got all tongue-tied and stupid-brained (the whole star-struck thing :dork: ). However, I think I have gotten to a point when I go to Nationals that I can carry on a fairly coherent conversation–or at least enough to fake it.

I know some folks who are so laid back and can converse with anyone–me, not so much, but it’s still a hoot to meet these people and be in their airspace.

Who are your Author Crushes? Anyone we know? And have you met them/spoken to them? (Stalked them? :nener: )
