Oh Bean Baby is hysterical!

My first baby? It's a classic cliched Present's Blackmail plot. Not sure if I've totally given up on it, though. I like the cocky bastard hero a little too much to bury him for good.

OMG, that baby is pretty much a dead ringer for my first book.

Okay, so it didn't have a lot of head-hopping or anything--I knew better than that. What it didn't have was...um...a conflict. I thought it did, but er, no. I've tried rewriting it oodles of times because I really loved the characters, but ultimately, I kept hitting dead ends. Probably because I refused to change the characters to make them more flawed and actually cause a real conflict.

Oh well, live and learn!

Like when you retire from writing Dennie? LOL :nener:

Mine...I still work on. I actually spent a few weeks working on it a few months ago and even chatted with my agent about it. Even though I've decided to keep the characters and the town and scrap everything else, I'm having a really hard time nailing the opening which is VERy unusual for me. That's one reason I want to send it to her.

if you count first book written as an adult, with hopes of getting published... it'd be my first release DEADLY MISTAKES--it has gone through many incarnations though, it started off as two books, and orginally the first three chapters, you didn't know who "Charlies" was (the heroine--I'd made it ambiguous to her gender into chapter three).

The one I wrote after it (like a week after finishing) probably won't see light of day. That one, I sorta started when I was 17, it started out a "how I met my hubby" since he was my prom date. :tmi: I worked on it after DM--finished it, but ... I don't know, I may work on it again YEARS from now.

Raine said it best "with enough 360-degree head-hopping to call for The Exorcist." :lmao: It was also a romantic suspense, thriller, women's fiction, paranormal romance. I think it even had a kitchen sink as the plot. The heroine was whiny. The hero a doormat.

Sigh. I still love that book. It got really good around chapter ten. Not sure why and I think that's why I haven't tossed it out. I need to find out how even a horrible first attempt got good.

I wrote 'Roc' back in 1977. I brought the soul of a barbarian warrior forward in time to inhabit the body of a picked on teenager's body at the moment of the teen's death. Reading it now, it's stilted and rough, but I still like it. I've thought of rewriting it on-line for fun. It's still just on paper. I sent it around many times by snail mail which was the only mode of query. I finished my second novel about the time I received something from an editor other than a form letter. It was negative enough I began sending my second novel out... but with the same results. By then I owned my own auto shop and had a daughter with a son on the way. That slowed my writing down a bit. :)

Well it depends. The VERY first baby is the one I wrote in the 6th grade when I met my very first bff. It's sleeping with the--well whatever's in the attic, as it's in a spiral bound notebook in a box somewhere. It wasn't what you'd call a PLOT exactly. Now my first baby that resembled an actual book, and in fact, the first one I ever submitted for publication (and thank GOD for that rejection) is slated for a total rewrite at some point whenever I decide to get back on the young adult train. It wasn't a bad concept, but it needed some serious work. I've got the overall plot in mind, I just need to find the time and inclination to revisit it.

Okay, I'm just lovin' that baby. :lmao:

Yes, my first romance sleeps with the dust bunnies. It was plodding and awkward, with enough 360-degree head-hopping to call for The Exorcist.
HOWEVER---I took the premise behind that first book and made a practice fresh start of it a few months ago. Maybe I'll rewrite it one day, dunno. But I still think the premise was good.
