Ohhh, big sigh from this corner, Vanessa. I can carry a tune, but to sing the old jazz songs with a small band?

This feels like a wake up call. I think I might look into taking a class, or something.

Hope you can manage to feed the other arts too, VJ. To me it always seems to be a matter of time. Not enough hours in the day for everything you want to do.

You know, I read this yesterday, didn’t leave a comment. Came back, didn’t leave a comment. I’ve always been creatively inclined. While i think I will always write, the other two things I would pursue would be design (architecture, furniture, product) and I’d love to sing old jazz standards with a house band/trio. lol. (I keep toying with the idea of taking voice lessons). My mother was a dressmaker at one point in her life, as was her mother. I learned to sew at a fairly young age and would dabble at making my own clothes. I was in the church choir growing up, and took viola for years. I liked sketching, would like to get into photography and gardening, and enjoy experimenting in the kitchen.

But this post made me realize how much i’ve starved that creative side of myself. The only aspect of it I feed is the writing, and even that gets underminded because of day to day concerns/stresses or getting caught up with business/marketing/gossip side of things.

This feels like a wake up call. I think I might look into taking a class, or something.

There are always portable keyboards, Ann. The sound isn’t the same, but they’re great for learning and/or composing.

I also love to cook, and only wish I had a better kitchen and someone to cook for (and to help with the dishes).

Honey, finding people to sample free food shouldn’t be too hard, lol. But I’m with you on the dishes!

Other than writing, I think I enjoy drawing the most.

Another visual artist.
And the acting thing is interesting, Tanya. I’ve played an instrument for an audience before, but gawd, I would stroke out if I had to act in front of a crowd! Putting my writing out there is one thing—but putting myself out there?

I took piano lessons when I was young (and taught myself to play Fur Elise- by ear, and was trying to teach myself to play Moonlight Sonata when we all moved and had to get rid of the piano), and would love to get a piano and see if I could teach myself again. I also played several other instruments in school, but not much since I graduated from college.
I also love to cook, and only wish I had a better kitchen and someone to cook for (and to help with the dishes).
I’m thinking of getting a sewing machine and taking up quilting.

I like painting, drawing, singing, have played a couple of instruments. Gardening. Cooking. Photography. The one thing I really can’t do: craft projects. And I don’t want the talent because doing one makes me feel like I’m being punished.

Acting is a love of mine, but I never seriously pursued it like I did writing. My other interests include drawing/painting and singing. Other than writing, I think I enjoy drawing the most. My children seem to have picked up the talent too. All three of them can draw, but my eleven-year-old son draws better than all of us. He’s truly gifted.

Iâ€™m very creative, but writing is the only thing I finish.

That’s interesting, Mel. It must be your true love.

Now, what I wish forâ€¦to draw. Stick figures is the best I can do.

Mel, allow me to make a suggestion (if you ever really want to give it a try). It’s a book called “Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain” by Betty Edwards. It teaches you to SEE things in a different way, without preconceptions, making them easier to draw. It worked wonders for me when I was struggling with sketching.

Much as I loved it, deep down I knew I didnâ€™t have what it takes to make a living at it.

I’ve seen examples of your work, Lynn. Very good ones. You’re a natural.

So while I canâ€™t play it, there is always music in the house.

Another vote for music.
When I was growing up, all of us children were trained in music and a couple of us were very talented. Nobody chose to pursue it, however.
You passed it on to your daughter. That’s great.
