I’m going to say something that, as an author who writes erotica, I probably shouldn’t.

Menages rarely work for me.

There are exceptions.  I’ve read a few that were actually very sexy and well-written.  And the idea of a menage isn’t offensive to me in any sort of “moral” way.  Consenting adults making personal decisions about themselves, and that’s their business.
It’s probably silly, because eventually I may wind up writing one myself.  But I think they don’t usually work for me in storylines because I have trouble suspending a certain amount of disbelief as far as menages, fantasy or not.

And yes, I know that many women HAVE the fantasy, of having sex with multiple partners (I’m willing to confess to wondering about it myself, lol).  But I’d have trouble dealing with it on a personal level.

As a one-shot erotic deal—possibly.  The participants were all intoxicated (NOT sexy, btw), or stranded on a desert island for a few days, or it was an alien civilization in which this was considered the norm, or lovers were forced to have at it by some supernatural power interested in mass copulation…OK.
But as a regular practice, or shared romantic relationship?
Ummmm…………..no.

I have no problem with anyone who practices it–more power to ya–but I don’t relate to it.  I know me.  If I’m with a guy I really care about and some beyotch gives him “that look”, I’m mad enough to chew nails.  A reasonable amount of jealousy is the natural order of things when you have feelings for someone (unless you’re one of the few in an extraordinary relationship where absolute trust means it wouldn’t phase you at all, and even then I’d have to wonder).  The green-eyed monster is primitive, possessive, and sometimes ugly, but it’s also very real, with a sexual appeal of its own.
And I’m sorry, but if I were with a guy who wanted me to do another guy in the interest of making everybody happy, I’d tell him to take his happy ass somewhere else.  My doubts carry over into my reading, I’m afraid.

I know menage stories are hawt, rich in fantasy-fulfillment, and big sellers, but how do you honestly feel about them?
(And if my next release should happen to be about a menage, kindly forget this post, kthanxmuch).
