Behind the Book….with Red (and Jordan Summers)
The Chicas asked me to drop by. I was going to write up a whole blog post about my new supernatural thriller, RED. It’s a near-future, post apocalyptic twist on the Little Red Riding Hood fairytale. The idea behind the story came from one question: What if Little Red Riding Hood and the Big, Bad Wolf turned out to be the same person. In the end, I decided it would be best to let Red talk for herself.
“I don’t have all day, so let’s get to it.”
Of course, I know you’re a busy woman, what with running the town of
“Are you going to ask me any questions?”
What is it like being on a tactical team?
Speaking of which, I heard you got your nickname by pursuing Unknowns. Is that true?
“No, I got my nickname from shooting Unknowns. Get your facts straight.”
That’s a big gun you have.
“Yeah, it’s great for blowing big holes into people.”
Gulp.
“It’s a laser pistol. The wound cauterizes as it’s removing your heart from your chest. Want to see?”
No, no, I’m good. Um, how did you meet Sheriff Morgan Hunter?
“The usual way. On the job. I was investigating a murder not far from his town. One thing led to another.”
He’s hot. Don’t narrow your eyes at me. It’s true.
“If you know what’s good for you, you will keep your paws off him.”
Sure, anything you say. No need to point the pistol at me. Is there anything else you’d like to say to the readers?
I’m sure that will encourage them. Okay then, thank you very much for your time.
You can visit Jordan’s webpage here and read more about RED here including an excerpt here

LOL! Nice Interview.
lol! Great interview, and excerpt.
Is that Morgan Hunter with his shirt off on the cover? He IS hawt! ::runs out of laser pistol shooting range::
I love the idea/question that spawned the book. Also the play on Morgan’s surname and the Woodsman in the original fairytale. The follow up books are all named after a shade of red, Scarlet, etc. Is each book about a different h/h in the same world? Or is the overall arc about this couple?
Well you already know I can’t wait for this to come out!
I’m curious…what’s the balance of romance to story in this–I know it’s UF
Great interview.
I’m curious…what’s an “Unknown”?
Okay, I absolutely love the cover, and it sounds like a heroine I can get behind and cheer for. (Of course from a safe distance.)
Vanessa, LOL, you better run after a comment like that. *g*
***The follow up books are all named after a shade of red, Scarlet, etc. Is each book about a different h/h in the same world? Or is the overall arc about this couple?***
Originally, the first two books were going to be about Red and Morgan, but by the time I finished book two I knew that wasn’t going to happen. Due to circumstances surrounding the plot in book two, I had to carry Red’s and Morgan’s love story and plot arc into book three. There is a secondary love story that starts in book two and ends in book three, but it’s ultimately Red’s and Morgan’s story.
As for the color theme (ie RED, SCARLET, CRIMSON), they mean various things. RED is based on the character and the Little Red Riding Hood fairytale. SCARLET is a drug. And CRIMSON has to do with blood flow and how a couple of the characters see the world. *wg*
Amie, Contrary to how it’s been reviewed, it’s actually not an urban fantasy since it’s not set in present time. I know a lot of readers call it that because I wrote the killer/s in first person POV, but it’s a romance—a dark fantasy romance with sci-fi elements. *g* As for the romance to action breakdown, I’d say the first book is 65% action/35% romance. The second book is closer to 50/50 and the third book is 60/40.
Raine, An Unknown is someone who hasn’t registered with any of the republics in my world. Anyone who wants to live in the safety of the republics has to register (ie show ID and be computer chipped). If you don’t, then you’re considered an Unknown, someone who doesn’t exist in the eyes of the republics. It’s a bit like being an illegal alien.
LOL, Melissa. Thanks! :)
Thanks Bernard. :)
So Jordan…….I know you have a lot of pies in the air. What’s next?
Before I head for home….I also know you’re an author who doesn’t like to limit herself…what other genres would you like to explore in the near future?
Cece, Right now I have a three book furturistic series submitted to Tor. It won’t revolve around the same characters. Instead, I have a specific location/means of transportation in all three books. That’s what links them. The stories are very different from each other. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to write them.
I also have a partial put together for a new urban fantasy series. Here’s hoping it finds a home. If it does, I will most likely do a name change since it’s definitely not a romance.
I’ve also come up with two story ideas for two YA urban fantasies. I’d like to explore them next year. There’s a paranormal romance sitting on my computer that might fit at Harlequin. We’ll have to see. So much depends on what I end up selling in the next five months. I don’t want to overload my writing schedule. I’ve seen a lot of my friends burn out from doing so.
Thank you for having me, ladies. It’s been a pleasure. Red do you have anything more to add?
You must have a death wish.
And there you have it. :)
Red sounds great!
Red! I’ll see you next Tuesday when I drop you in my shopping basket
