Writer’s ER
We’ve all talked over the woes of a writer’s life–the things that pause us, things that stop us cold in our tracks. But let’s get past that for a moment and think about what you need once you’re on the up-swing. I’m not talking about your muse and her wiles or inspiration from an art form to jumpstart the creative side of you. What do you use to revive the very soul, the person that is the writer?
Chocolates have long been touted as the cure-all. I am in no dis
pute there. But what other devices lift your waning spirit? Here are a few of mine . . .
~ A Starbucks Saturday (always hits the spot)
~ Lunch at Chili’s or Cheddars (everything is better with food!)
~ Whining phones calls to girlfriends (hopefully these are few and far between–the whining, not the girlfriends)
~ SHOPPING (especially if it is for something you don’t NEED!)
~ Something with alcohol (’Nuff said!)
~ Good toe-stomping music (’specially if the singer is wearing tight tight jeans–WAHOO!)
My crooner of preference:
These are the ways I recharge, revive and relax.
How do you renew?

Nice illustration list! I renew everything by playing basketball, baseball, or soccer with my grandson. There’s nothing quite like being taunted by a six year old to put things in perspective. :)
LOL BERNARD!!!!!!!!
Saturdays also work for me. Also, reading and watching TV
I take a day off from work.
You have no idea how much it helps.
Really.
Truly.
Trust me.
~ SHOPPING (especially if it is for something you don’t NEED!)
Funny, I just blogged about a similar thing. I must say shopping does it for me. In fact, I was going to shop at Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab today. Must do that now! Then I’m sure I’ll feel like writing.
All computers are turned off. If I’m lucky I’m horizontal. Sleeping. Get your mind out of the gutter. And there is nothing like getting together with friends.
HA, Bernard… I have being itching to use the smilys… and yes, 6-y-o trash talk is a wonderful tool–my kiddo usually yells, “bring it on old lady…” and then it is SOOOOOOOOOO on!
shoot Ames, that was the quickest 6 pages I have gotten in months… it’s amazing what a good friend, gooey treat and headphones can do to help!
Raine, you are correct, I have no idea…well I did back in July when I was outta state outta mind… but I have soooo made up for it since!
Rene…I heart shopping, I am usually curtailed to groceries, but when it’s one of those months, I shove a People or Crossword puzzle book and a pint of Chunky Monkey in the cart and I’m good–but truth be told my vice is eBay–don’t matter neccessarily what it is AS LONG AS I WIN
…….
Mel, sleep is a wonderful thing (and I often wake with a better idea than when I stressed all day over something!)
A good movie or a good audio book usually does the trick for me.
…my kiddo usually yells, “bring it on old lady…” and then it is SOOOOOOOOOO on!
Oh, I’d just have to HUMILIATE his ass. LOL!!
Milk and cookies always relaxes me.
>>my vice is eBay–
OMG YES!!!!!!! I avoid it like the plague. It’s like the CRACK of timewasters!
Tanya ~ I *heart* Liftetime movies . . . . I can zone out and not think for a bit!
LOL Raine…. I just tickle him til he pees… works every time
Jane, oooh sounds heavenly… I pretty much would take any Pepperidge Farm cookie!
HA! Ames, It’s my competitive nature I guess! And I usually buy crap, I have FIVE MP3 players that were about $2 each… we now have a household of 10 players with 6 people… SHEESH!
OMG YES!!!!!!! I avoid it like the plague. It’s like the CRACK of timewasters!
Hello. My name is Emma and I am an eBay addict. An unrepentant eBay addict. Anytime you can get 2 pairs of Naturalizer leather boots and a pair of Michael (fricken) Kors suede wedges for 76 dollars that’s so not a waste of time. I saved like 300 bucks. And you know what I’m going to do with that money? Reinvest it in eBay. There are shoes, dresses, jeans, and Sims games that need to be bought.
But I don’t really consider shopping a recharge. I don’t even know if a recharge is necessary for me. I always think I can do more.
