A Kiss By Any Other Name…..
I’ve been a bad girl this week. My Felicity DVD set finally arrived on Monday (Seasons 1-4), and I’ve been hip-deep in the series, which means (you guessed it) no writing. Do I feel guilty? Um … maybe just a little, but I’ll get over it.
So what’s the point of this post?
Well, yesterday I got to this fabulous kissing scene and it got me thinking about other memorable TV and Movie kissing scenes I loved. You know, the ones you can never forget because of their emotional impact on the characters and plot in general. Can you name some of yours?
MOVIES: I have two
Somewhere In Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour
Troy with Brad Pitt and Rose Byrne. (love how she drops that knife )
TV: Just one, for now
Felicity with Scott Speedman and Keri Russell (anyone familiar with this series knows how pivotal this first kiss was)

Oh, my…there are so MANY!
(so of course I can’t think of them right now, lol).
Just for starters…
“The Big Easy”, with Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin. He’s a cop, who gets called away just as they’re about to make out. He apologizes, and dorky Ellen’s character says something like, “that’s ok, I never had much luck with sex anyway.” And he pulls her to him–hard–and says, “your luck’s about to change, cher.” And he plants one on her. And I’m telling you, it’s one of the most CARNIVOROUS kisses I’ve ever seen! I mean, he DEVOURS her with that kiss (and I don’t believe there was any way in heck that was acting).
Agree about “Somewhere In Time”. Sigh.
Sam and Diane from “Cheers”, when they shared their first in the middle of proclaiming their hatred for each other.
The end of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, when Aragorn and Arwen are reunited.
“Mountains of the Moon”, though not well-known, in which Sir Richard Burton returns from nearly dying after months in the wilderness while trying to find the source of the Nile, sees his lady love, grabs her, kisses her, lifts her Victorian skirts and throws her down on the bed to have at it without wasting a word.
And the one between Will and Elizabeth at the end of “Curse of the Black Pearl” wasn’t too shabby either.
Buffy and Spike.
You know I can’t readily think of one single example. And yet I know there’ve been many. Pretty sure a Meredith/McDreamy one is right up there recently. But one thing I’m sure they all had in common was the build up. The sexual tension, and underscoring emotion, that made me/the veiwer want that first damn kiss as much as the characters did. The longer the wait, the higher the anticipation, the more memorable that kiss was.
Which is why it kinda sucks when writers don’t give the viewer what they want. Hell, this is a an easy punt for the winning field goal. Don’t be cute. (ie, that stuuuuuuupid News Years kisss between Mulder and Scully. I’ll never forgive you Chris Carter!! ::shakes fist::; )
Troy with Brad Pitt and Rose Byrne. (love how she drops that knife )
Roflmao. I would have drop the knife too. Along with some other things.
And of course I can’t think of any right now. Hmmm…There was one with Xander and Faith. I love the way she bit his lip. That entire scene was awesome.
OMG, Raine!!! I remember that kiss. He literally ATE HER UP! Oh! And then there’s that love scene with the gator.
Apart from being funny, it was totally HOT!
I remember Cheers and the sexual tension between Sam and Diane, but I don’t remember the kiss. It’s been so long since I even thought about that series. I still remember how sexy Sam was though. I honestly didn’t see what he saw in Diane. lol!
Bernard,
I never watched Buffy. I just remember her having the hots for Angel. Maybe I’ll put the series on my Netflix queue. Who was Spike?
There’s actually a character named McDreamy? What series is this? Love the name, though!
Emma,
I wouldn’t have even had the damned knife! I mean, really!
Which series is Xander and Faith? Is it a SOAP?
Spike, played by James Marsters, fought Buffy tooth and stake from season two on. Then in season six, their kiss ignites a three episode love/hate conflict culminating in a love scene where they literally destroy the building they’re in while making love. My kids turned me into a Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan while they were growing up. If you weren’t a fan of the series though, Tanya, I’m not sure you’d care one way or the other about Spike and Buffy’s romance. :)
I’m putting in a link so this may end up in the Spam folder. But a little backstory if you haven’t seen it. Jennifer Garner’s fiance died. And the guy she is kissing is the friend she depises. Ha.
Well it didn’t go through, but you can find it on here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_-mbvnU7JQ
And if that doesn’t show up head over to youtube and type: catch and release kissing scene. Trust me. It’s worth it.
And Brad Pitt can kiss me like that any time. Angelina does not have to know.
Bernard,
I’ve gotten into the habit of checking out series I ignored while they were on TV, that’s how I started watching Felicity. I got the first season via Netflix, fell in love and ordered the whole set from Amazon. I say this to say that I’m definitely putting Buffy on my queue. It sounds exciting! Maybe after Buffy I’ll watch Angel.
Melissa,
Not at that point, but yes that kiss can burn bandwidth. It’s a great movie. I was surprised by it, but it’s well worth the watch.
