Bad Sex
Wow….what a way to start a Monday. hehe
I worked on Screwed this weekend and made some wonderful progress. Not just in terms of pages, but in moving the story forward.
I broke the 100 page mark, they kissed, they had sex (which I admit I didn’t expect for another 50 pages or so)….and my heroine got SHOT! WOOT!!!!!
(welcome to the only place on earth where getting shot is cause for celebration).
So anyway, back to the sex…..It…wasn’t so good. Now it’s probably one of the BESTEST sex scenes I’ve written in a doggy stylin age, but it wasn’t good for him. He’s got issues with Va-jay-jay*
I’m walking a fine line here…..greatly written bad sex? Isn’t that a bit of an oxymoron?
Do you read bad sex? Have you read bad sex? (And badly written sex isn’t what I”m talking about here)
What do you think of heroes with sexual issues? (and no he’s not magically cured by the Golden Poonanny–did I spell that right?)
What do you think of sexual issues in erotic(a/ romance)?
I had more questions, but I forgotted them.
talk amongst yourself.

Nope. Haven’t read it. Seems to be somewhat difficult to find–in the romance field, I mean (EASY to find in the real world!).
And the only time I’ve tried writing it, it was met with very firm rejections (of course, it could’ve been my writing). The current wip (Pinky) has paranormal issues with the sex–but that’s another story.
Honestly? I don’t think there’s enough bad sex in romance. I don’t mean AWFUL sex, like somebody ruptures something or something…but I think it makes both the hero and storyline more interesting. If we love our imperfect heroes/heroines, why should the sex be “perfect” right off the bat?
People have issues. Resolving some of those issues is a part of the story.
I don’t know that I have read bad sex… bad timing for them to be having sex yes. Not setting up *why* they are having sex, yeah, but if issues are created, that actually seems to add more to the story!
I should have added, five minutes after meeting
does not a romance make … IMO
Jennifer Crusie has written two “bad sex” scenes (although, ‘meh’ from the point of view of the heroine is a better description than ‘bad’). The aptly named ‘Faking It’ ::snicker:: and I’m pretty sure the first time in Fast Women wasn’t so hot for her either.
Surprisingly there’s been a lot of ‘okay sex’ scenes in Historical Romances from either the H/h’s point of view.
Can’t say I’ve heard of a ‘bad sex’ scene from the hero’s point of view, in particularly a contemporary erotica.
LOL YA THINK?
I believe one is inversely propoortional to the other, dont’cha know!
That’s why I threw it out there….
Way to go on the page count!!!
No, I don’t believe I’ve read erotica where the sex was considered “bad” in any form.
Well, the one that comes to mind comes from Faking It. Yes, the title is what really happened in the book. Great, great scene. So if it’s written well then I don’t see the problem.
Also in my WIP there is an interrupted sex scene. Does that count because both parties walk away very frustrated? Just like in a real life when you’ve encountered bad sex.
I dunno, Cece, I guess it depends on the issue, of course. If he’s a Viagra user, he’d better have a psychological reason (maybe he’s a cop and he accidentally killed somebody). I’d rather it be a mind-thing, rather than a loose washer in the plumbing.
