The Great Debate
Hmmmmm so I’ve sat here for the last two hours debating on what to blog about. Should I blog about titles….or should I blog about stuff I hate but don’t hate…….
I think maybe I’ll go with stuff I hate…but don’t. I know…sounds weird. I guess an exception to the rule would have been a better description. Duly noted for next time!
So here we go…I hate HATE guys like Will Ferrell (you will NEVER catch me watching any of his movies on purpose except the one about the writer) and Johnny Knoxville…except for THE RINGER. I’m sorry but that is one of the FUNNIEST EFFING MOVIES EVAH! Maybe it’s because my oldest brother is retarded or maybe it’s just someone sick enough to name themselves Jeffy Dalmer (sp?)… Or maybe I was a teenaged boy in my last life.
Also…I AM NOT A Sit-Com person. I’m not. I don’t like slapstick comedy, I never thought That 70’s
Show was funny, or Kramer or Seinfeld or even Friends. But I think The Riches (NOT sit-com) is insanely smart, funny, warped; it’s dark, it’s twisted, it’s just not right and I heart it with every fiber of my being. Sorry I got a little sidetracked….
That said, there is one show, one short, thirty minute *gulp SIT-COM I adore. It is the funniest sh*t on TV. It is Aliens in America, and it is back. I DARE you to watch it and not laugh.
So what’s the exception to your rule?

Guess I can’t really comment, since I don’t get to see any of these (too lazy to set the vcr, I guess).

But I’m with you. Don’t like slapstick, or shows that play laugh tracks when the stuff is so obviously UN-funny. Give me dark, twisted, or dysfunctional, and I’m with you.
I think the last sitcoms I actually liked were “Frasier” (very witty) and occasionally “Malcome In The Middle”. Yeah, I know, I need to catch up…
“I never thought That 70’s Show was funny, or Kramer or Seinfeld “
GASP!!
Bite your tongue, missy!!
Granted, 70s was mostly amusing (although it had it’s moments) BUT SEINFELD RULZ!!!!! The bizarre inanities on the show boardered on freakin brilliant. The dumber it got, the more I had to admired the sheer genius of the writing. lol. In terms of quotability it’s right up there with The Simpsons.
I was a fan of Friends (for about 1 season) because of the Ross/Rachel thing more than the humor.
And in my house I’m fond of saying, not everyone loves Raymond. I don’t. heh.
Those shows are amusing/funny, but nothing I made sure I had to tune in to.
Will Ferrell was hilarious in Austin Powers, His five minutes were some of the funniest moments in the movies. Anything else he’s done? eh. And I’ve only watched anything else he’s done because others insist (ie loan me DVDS) he’s hysterical. I’m not convinced.
My taste in humor runs the gamut–cheezy, slapstick, witty, dark, black/twisted, juvenile, gross, suggestive, etc. The only thing I’m not crazy about is stuff that is blantantly hateful/racist.
“Don’t like slapstick, “
No Three Stoges? No I Love Lucy? No Dick Van Dyke Show?
I’ll admit that Jim Carey can over do it, but his Ace Venture movies were so stupid. lol.
Yes, to Fraiser and Malcom In the Middle. Everyone Hates Chris is also a good show. I don’t catch it always, but when I do, I always get a couple of good belly laughs.
Bah-humbug. You guys suck. No joke. heh.
I dont watch many sitcoms either. I didnt think I’d like Everybody Hates Chris or It’s Always Sunny in Philadephia but both of those shows are hilarious.
I can’t say I hate stuff I’m just always late to the party. Like Sex and The City. Never watched the show until the final episode then I went back and watched the earlier shows On Demand. The same with Seinfeld and Friends.
But what I hate and you have to trick me into watching it are movies about war and movies that deal with racism. Nope, won’t do it. But I loved The Color Purple, The Great Debators, and the name of the movie fails me at the moment, but it had Bruce Willis in it and he saved a whole tribe of people.
i want to beat eveyrone on Raymond and while I occasionally enjoyed Frazier, I never got Seinfeld.
Mel one of my all-time FAVE movies is American History X–it’s definitely about racism and it’s got a very powerful message….Edward Norton at his FINE-EST but there’s some pretty strong imagery in it and I bawled like a baby at the end (Parts of it are done in B & W which IMO strengthens that imagery). Trick yourself into watching it someday but bring tissues……..
>>Mel one of my all-time FAVE movies is American History X–it’s definitely about racism and it’s got a very powerful message
I hope that interprets better than it looks and that ya’ll know what I mean….heh
Didn’t like (or get) Seinfeld, watched Friends occasionally. I did like Everybody Loves Raymond, but not on a regular basis. It’s funny, when I was younger I liked comedies like Dick Van Dyke, I Love Lucy, Three’s Company - but not now.
I will NOT watch Jim Carrey’s comedies, don’t like them. But I love his more serious movies like The Truman Show, The Majestic, etc.
Will not watch Tom Cruise anymore unless there is someone in the movie that I just have to see - like Hugh Jackman.
Won’t watch that child molester Woody Allen either, not even with Hugh Jackman.
I usually don’t like TV shows that deal with the paranormal because they’re usually lame, however I watch Supernatural every week because the writing, actors and direction are so good, I can’t resist.
I’m not into lame sit-coms. But, I do appreciate smart ones - like Frazier. I’m more into smart TV like CSI, House, and Numbers. I’m into some of the paranormal shows like Medium and I LOVED Moonlight. If it doesn’t come back…
I used to love ER.
I cannot stand Jim Carreys slapstick. Although, Liar Liar had a a good message. I love him when he is being serious though - like the Majestic. That was a great movie.
Can’t stand the “new” sit coms like “The Office.” SOOOOO stupid! Can’t stand that one or the spoof on ER, whatever it’s called.
I want smart and engaging. If I want slapstick, I’ll watch standup on Comedy Central. I do like Jeff Dunham. FUNNY!
I like funny like Chuck or hell even Dexter is funny–I like irony funny.
My guikty pleasure–Girls Next Door–that show cracks me up–dunno why it just does!
