Slackers Unite
Some would say I was a bad girl yesterday, but in hindsight, I’d have to disagree with them. In fact, I’d recommend doing what I did every now and then.
What did I do, you ask?
ABSOFREAKINLUTELY NOTHING!
That’s right, dear friends. It was a no-writing day for me. Procrastination-city, baybee! I just wasn’t in the mood. Am I repentant? Um…. no. Do I feel guilty? Heck no!
Hey, I needed the break. I’m still getting over a vicious flu bug that had me in bed for most of last week. My body is still recovering. My brain is also a bit foggy too. This thanks to Alka Seltzer Plus, Motrin and Robitussin. That’s why writing was the last thing on my mind.
In short, the words are just not there right now.
So I surfed the web (research… okay?). I also read (or tried to read) a few books. Played Mahjong and Solitaire. I even attempted to finish my Golden Heart judging, but I kept nodding off. Not good. That’s when I raided my ’80s DVD stash. I had the most fun watching Flash Dance again. I also watched half of Blade Runner.
Sometimes procrastination is good. Sometimes you need to clear your mind of all the junk, ya know?
How about you? What are your favorite ways to procrastinate?

Good morning Tanya!

My favorite ways of procrastinating is surfing the net, watching TV, talking to my crazy family and friends, dressing Toussaint (my sassy kitty boy) in gold lame and sparklies and of the mother of all time wasters YAHOO i.m.
MySpace surveys, Facebook quizzes …
Nothing wrong with taking a break. That’s why doctors always suggest lots of rest. I sleep, watch tv or read if I’m feeling particularly low energy. Go for a walk, clean, surf the web or hang with a friend if I’m a little more revitalized.
Glad you’re on the mend.
Emma,
Yahoo is one of my vices too. I spend way too much time there only because most of my groups are on Special Notices. I did this so I wouldn’t be deluged with mail. I prefer SN over Digest, but I’m really defeating the purpose by goofing off. Can’t seem to stop myself though.
Bailey,
I try to avoid the quizzes because they’re a definite weakness. I can’t get enough of them. I once spent an entire hour on Quizilla. Didn’t feel like an hour either. The time just flew.
I can never remember the name of the disease where you fall asleep at a drop of a dime. Well, that’s me when I’m procrastinating. I can sleep the day away. When I’m not nodding off I’m playing Spider Soltaire. That game is so addictive. And I don’t consider reading procrastinating, I’m just studying my craft.
Jaq,
I haven’t gotten the flu in twenty years. I’m serious. My kids get sick. DH gets sick. ALL THE TIME. This is the first in a long time for me. I guess that’s why it hit me so hard. This bug is nasty. It starts as a tickle in the throat, then moves down to your chest. Next comes weakness and fever. Body aches. And HORRIBLE chills. My son had it and his temp got up to 103.3. I thought I was going to have to take him to the hospital because any time he gets sick, it triggers an asthma attack. It’s hard taking care of a sick child when you’re sick yourself. I was a wreck.
Melissa,
“Studying my craft”?
I think the disease you’re talking about is Narcolepsy. The nodding off thing usually gets me when I’m bored. No matter how hard I try to write, if I’m not feeling a scene, or the characters, I’ll nod off.
So there you are :) Aw damn, the flu is horrible. Sorry to hear you’re “entertaining” the bug. Socially, those things never know when to leave. I had the flu over Christmas and it had me down for two weeks, with another two weeks just to regain my strength. Get well and Happy V Day !
I don’t know, Tanya, if I emptied my mind of all the junk, I wouldn’t have anything left to write. :) Get Well.

Sleeping.
Did I mention sleeping?
Feel better, Tanya.
LOL I have to go with Sleeping too! Um otherwise, tv, movies, and reading. And um yeah Yahoo IM for me too
Get well sweets! I’m sure you deserved that day off.
All those drugs usually make me dance–on something–as the kids stare in HORROR!
I like Lifetime movies or my Jane Austen DVD’s (I have 8 or 9) to not do anything! –GAW I have seen a LOT of movies lately.
Billy,
This thing has been a royal pain. I did manage to get out today to pick my son up from school and I also went to the supermarket. Now I’m exhausted. I hope to be back to speed by next week.
Bernard,
The trick is emptying the junk for a little while, and then reloading it as needed.
Raine,
I’ve been in bed so long that my hiatal hernia is acting up. So now I’ve got to take a bunch of Motrin to get the swelling down. When it rains (no pun intended) it pours.
Cece,
I’m taking it one day at a time. Fortunately I’ve got some great movies in from Netflix and a friend of mine works at Blockbuster. She gets movies like one to two weeks before they’re released to the public, so I’m going to be watching Beowulf, American Gangster and 30 Days of Night tonight.
Dennie,
OH!! That reminds me. I’ve been meaning to order the BBC Jane Austin set with all the goodies in it. Colin what’s his name as Darcy is a definite keeper.
Hugs, Tanya! You really did go above and beyond for me when you looked at my synopsis!!
I agree that sometimes you just have to do something else. Let your brain rest and let random things come and go. It helps. My favorite procrastination methods are reading, cooking, decorating, watching HGTV, shopping, and going to lunch with friends.
That’s Firth, Tanya. Colin Firth.
No Ames, I’m not here.
Lynn,
It was an easy read, so it didn’t take long at all.
Thanks, Bailey. My brain was foggy at the time. Couldn’t remember his name at all!
