Paperback Heroes
Can you name three to five of your all time favorite paperback heroes?
Here are mine in no particular order:
Valerian from Linda Miller’s Time Without End
Will Parker from LaVyrle Spencer’s MORNING GLORY

Zsadist from JR Ward’s Lover Awakened
Brandon Carlyle from Katherine Sutcliffe, Darkling, I Listen

My favorite heroes are Lyon from Julie Garwood’s “The Lion’s Lady,” Ryder in “Games of Pleasure” by Julia Ross, Nick in “Worth Any Price” by Lisa Kleypas, Payton in “Enigma” by Dee Davis and Joe in “Next to Die” by Marliss Melton.
I love Alphas, so they’re all my favourite. lol.
But the hero that really stands out for me is Julian from Madeline Hunter’s The Romantic. He’s the only Beta hero who’s every stayed in my memory. He truly is a romantic. He’s noble, honorable, and protective. and so passionately in love with the heroine. He very much reminds me of Colin Firth’s Darcy during the last half of the min-series, when you know Darcy is finally, madly in love with Elizabeth but knows he must keep his distance because she’s already rejected him.
Oh no! A memory game!!!!! And I just woke up, not to mention that my books are all packed up. Hmmmm.
Jean-Charles LaRoque from Loreth Ann White’s Seducing the Mercenary
Noah Bishop from Jill Shalvis’ Smart and Sexy
Shayne Mahoney from Jill Shalvis’ Strong and Sexy
Wynne from Amie Stuart’s Nailed
Ty from Once in a Blue Moon
Black Niall from Son of the Morning
Ramiel from The Lady’s Tutor
Jesse from The Night Remembers
Joe from Bound
Jane,
I have “Worth Any Price” by Lisa Kleypas and I loved Nick! I remember him fondly. Total hero material.
Jaq,
I’ve never read that book, however, I’m VERY familiar with Firth’s Darcy. Totally dreamy, totally drool-worthy. If Julian is like Darcy, I will definitely have to take a look at that book!!!
Bailey,
I’m not familiar with any of those heroes, however, since one is by Cece, I’ll definitely have to take a look at it, especially since I’ve liked all her heroes thus far, but they’re only the ones I’ve seen when I critiqued her chapters. LOL Cece’s heroes are always very three dimensional and DEFINITELY yummy.
Emma,
I’ve remember Niall. Dang was that man hot!!! I vaguely recall Ramiel and Jesse, only because it’s been so long since I’ve read them.
It’s very strange. I remember the books, remember the authors, but rarely remember the heroes’ names, etc.
I do like and remember Roarke from J.D. Robb’s series…
Tanya,
I have a habit of going back and re-reading my favorites every year. I looooove Kathleen Eagle. She was the first person I read who wrote about Native men who wrote REAL men and not the stereotypical b.s. that so many others wrote.
I’m just saying.
And Niall, I’m telling you, if he was real I think I’d brave no electricity for a taste of that.
Is it really bad to say my own? That I took what I liked from others to form my own heros? As a writer is it weird I love my own characters. LOL!
Well I do adore Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice, he’s the ultimate hero.
Also any of the Mallory brothers from Johanna Lindsay’s series about them, and of course the Black Dagger Brother Hood. YUM!!
Raine I dont remember names either so don’t feel bad! I’d have to say the hero from Jude Deveraux’s Wishes (which is like my ALL TIME FAVE BOOK EVAH).
I also dont memorize movie lines unless they’re just classic (ie Yippie Kay Yay Mother F*cker)
Raine,
I don’t usually remember names, but there are certain men who just STAY in my memory. These authors breathed life in them. I can only hope to do the same in my own work.
Emma,
Wasn’t Eagle married to a NA? If so, I can see how she’d be able to “get it right.”
Amy,
No, there is NOTHING wrong with having your hero as your favorite. I mean, some of them are the men of our dreams, ya know? I’ve got one hero who will forever remain my favorite because he came to me fully formed and he’s still as real to me as ever.
Cece,
That is my ALL TIME favorite line!! And he’s one of my favorite heroes.
I LOVE Jude Deveraux’s historical heroes. The later ones more than teh earlier ones.
Emma,
Wasn’t Eagle married to a NA? If so, I can see how she’d be able to “get it right.”
Yes she is. If I’m not mistaken his name is Clyde Eagle. He’s from the same band and rez as my ex and my best friend. Still there are many writers that claim Native heritage and still get a lot of things wrong. I won’t mention any names but the author I’m talking about really likes ferrets.
Emma,
You are sooooo bad!
i’ll have to get back to you on that
ROFLMAO
- I didn’t know about this cute little page. i come back again. you
Men have names?
(j/k) Too many to name, but I’ve enjoyed reading the other responses. Okay…nevermind. I do have one that hasn’t been mentioned. I liked MacDougal Duff, character created by Charlotte Armstrong. There was also Richard Russo’s “Sully” in Nobody’s Fool…and Leon de Valmy, in Mary Stewart’s Nine Coaches Waiting.
I suppose that speaks more of me than it does them, huh? IF they’re dysfunctional, alcoholic, bossy, arrogant, or stubborn, bring it on.
