The Great Christmas Debate
My Mom, Grandmom and her friend came to visit for Christmas, and it was an eye-opening experience. Long story short, after all the festivities, we decided to watch a few movies. Only problem was, we couldn’t decide what to put on. Everyone wanted to see some hunks, but we couldn’t agree on anything. Then the real argument started: Who’s hot and who’s not? Of course, Grandmom had her opinions as did my mom. In the end, they both got me thinking about men I watched when I was just a baby—men who, now that I think about it, were kinda sexy. One big thing I noticed about these men was that they were real. No steroids or non-human sized muscles. Just everyday, average bodies, but there was a quality about them that intrigued me. So here are Mom and Grandmom’s list of hotties from way back when, or as Grandmom says, “Back in the day” in no particular order.
Of course, I had to have my say!!!

I can agree with Sean Connery, Clark Gable, and Cary Grant.
I also agree with Eric Bana. He is sooo sexy.
I’d add Humphrey Bogart to the list. My mother loved him and watching his movies I can so see why.
my mother was a HUGE Elvis fan si I’d have to add him . . .
what a great eye opener in the morning!
Agree with some, disagree with others, but that’s natural…and of course, we love our Jason.
I never liked the angst-ridden young men like Dean and Brando, they need too much mothering.
And I never cared much for blondes, have no idea why.
Sean Connery is sexy to this day.
Cary Grant was sexy ’til the day he died.
Ronald Coleman’s missing…the man could WHISPER you into an orgasm.
I also adored Sidney Poitier. Strength, integrity, intensity.
And NO WAY an old-school list of sexy men is complete without TYRONE POWER!
Even my young self has to agree w/Cary Grant! *swoon!!!!*
And sorry Raine but James Dean….the brooding is so sexy. I even have some framed photos of him–but no where to hang them!
The women in your family have great taste in men!
Sorry ladies - I could never understand the Clark Gable thing, his ears remind me of Dumbo. But the rest are great - especially Cary Grant and James Dean (although I never liked his movies)
I myself liked Jimmy Stewart, Audie Murphy, Alan Ladd, Errol Flynn, Robert Redford, Gary Cooper, Gene Kelly, Rock Hudson, Steve McQueen …
But where’s Hugh Jackman!!!!
LOL Eve!!!!!!!!!!
Shouldn’t you be writing …
OK OKAYYYYYYYYYYYY
The Cowboys are losing - I’m NOT a happy camper.
Bailey
You’re not writing …. I bought “Built” today.
Lynn,
Cary Grant is a babe. Out of all the “vintage” guys up there, him and Sean Connery are my favorites.
======================
Mechele,
Oh, yeah! I forgot about him. He was very sexy in a dark, brooding sort of way.
Dennie,
Elvis was very sexy too … before the bloated drug phase. Same with Brando. I can see why women used to swoon over them. They had presence and a dark, drool-worthy sensuality.
=======================
Raine,
I love angst-ridden male characters. I just love them. Especially the misunderstood brooding types Brando and Dean used to create. There’s so much to play with in terms of characterization. In fact, most of my heroes are dark and angsty.
As for blonds, I never cared for them either … UNTIL I read a Sandra Brown book that had a really sexy/lovable hero in it. He was a minor character in another book (didn’t much pay attention to him in that one because he was teen), but then he grew up in the next book, so I got to watch him age and mature. In the latter book, he was much, much older. I think late thirties, early 40s. Anyway, ever since then, blond guys aren’t as icky to me anymore. LOL! Daniel Craig, Simon Baker, Matthew McConaughey … yum, yum…
Cece,
I didn’t go batty over Grant until I got older. Now I don’t only swoon, I DROOL! The man is SO sexy. I never really noticed it before, but WOW. He could ring my bell anytime.

Vanessa,
Yes, they have great taste in men ON SCREEN. LOL!
Bailey,
I only liked Clark Gable in one movie. Gone With The Wind. Oh! And also, It Happened One Night. He was dreamy in that one too. You named some hotties Gran and Mom didn’t think about. Especially Redford, Kelly, Hudson and McQueen. I can’t believe we forgot Redford! The man was hunkalicious. And I’ve always, ALWAYS been koo koo for Cocoa Puffs about Gene Kelly. Ever since I was a kid. I also had a mad crush on Fred Astaire. The guy wasn’t hunky at all, but there was something adorable about him. Not to mention he could dance his ass off.
