Rituals
It’s hard to believe that another year has passed so quickly.
It’s a time to look back on what you’ve done, how you’ve changed, and what you’ve managed to survive.
But I do love the idea of a clean slate.
And it always interests me to hear how people ring in the new…
For example—every December 31rst, one friend of mine always shares a dinner of Chinese food and champagne with her husband as midnight rolls around. Very quiet, very romantic.
Another friend insists that her significant other be in the middle of…well…
her when the New Year is ushered in. Yup. No pressure there…
Me? I’m afraid I’ve mellowed. No more New Year’s partying for me. A bottle of wine or chilled bubbly, a little candlelight, a huge bowl of hot buttered popcorn along with a good movie or series, and I’m all set to cross over from one year to the next.
Do you have a ritual that you follow to bring in the New Year? Any special plans?

I’ll be honest, I don’t remember the last time I even stayed up until midnight. We always stay home w/ the boys (it’s much safer) . We have uber-munchies going and tons of bubbling …soda. We will often watch a trillogy–one year it was the Lord of the Rings, once the first three Harry Potters. (This year Bourne–WAHOO)
As far as resolutions, I always want to be a better person than the year before and hopefully w/ that the rest will fall in place. But OH watch out the Saturday before, if your ears start burning, you know I am ushering out the past year with my tonuge a waggling
We used to have family parties, but since mom’s death and the family splitting up it’s just my SIL and myself. We’ll watch movies, play games and watch the ball drop. There’ll probably be something alcoholic involved.
I don’t make New Years resolutions, I always break them.
LOL Yes we’re supposed to ring in the new year a little early with Lynn this year (tmo–thus the burning ears reference from Dennie). Of course they’ll probably be talking about me leaving early to go write which is probably what I’ll be doing New Years too–I never do anything! IM usually asleep! LOL
I mellowed a couple decades ago. I think I’m in the fermented stage, but in a non-alcoholic way. My ritual every year is to vow not to annoy my wife. So far, I’m 0 for 31. :)
Lol. Bernard.
I don’t have a ritual, but I definitely havesupersitions now. When the clock strikes midnight who you are with and what you are doing is what you are going to be doing most of the year. When 2007 came through I was writing and alone. Most of this year I was writing and very alone. I think I’m going to spend it with someone, of course with a notebook handy. Or just
We’ll see.
Happy New Year, Raine!!!
Don’t actually have a ritual. Last year we went to see George Lopez. It was something different to do and we had a blast. This year…I dont know what you’re gonna do yet.
OH and I remember another reason why we stay home (when the news reported the lifting of the burn ban for fireworks) My dumbass neighbors like to shoot fireworks off from about 9 pm to 2 am. Many many a time they have landed on my house or in the back yard–yes we live in a “NO FIREWORKS AREA”
you have to drive oh I don’t know five miles to get where it’s legal. Effers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! big time……….
I used to watch Dick Clark every year, but then he took sick, so we just watch whatever is on. That’s about it as far as rituals go. LOL! Yeah, I’m boring.
