Plug a Friend’s Book Day
Since I can’t tell you how much I really REALLY wish I could sell my children on ebay, I’m going to talk books today. And I want you to talk books too.
I first met Allison Winn Scotch* on myspace, and happy to discover another Lolly Winston fan, I started reading her blog. Allison’s not Lolly’s LOL. And I was immediately fascinated with the subject matter of her debut book, The Department of Lost and Found. Here’s the blurb from amazon (because I’m too lazy to write my own).
It didn’t start out as the worst day of Natalie Miller’s life. At thirty, she is moving up the political ladder, driven by raw ambition and ruthless determination. As the top aide to New York’s powerful female senator, she works hard, stays late, and enjoys every bit of it, even if the bills she’s pushing through do little to improve the lives of the senator’s constituents. And if her boyfriend isn’t the sexiest guy alive, at least he’s a warm body to come home to.
Then he announces he’s leaving. But that news is barely a blip compared to what Natalie’s doctor tells her: She has breast cancer. And she can’t cure it by merely being headstrong. Now the life Natalie must change is her own.
Yes, I am a big women’s fiction loving dork. What else can I say besides I loved this book? I mean, I really loved this book. If I just liked this book, I’d tell you I liked it, but I loved it. It’s a serious subject that I know is near and dear to Allison’s heart and it shows. As a writer I’m always impressed with someone who can take a difficult and scary topic, like breast cancer, and well, not depress me for 300+ pages, and Allison did a bang-up job of keeping me turning pages to the very end. TDLF isn’t just about fighting cancer, which in and of itself could have been the entire book, it’s about figuring out what’s really important…and learning to smoke pot (can I say that?) and eating ice cream andThe Price is Right (Which I’m still laughing about…you have to read it to really appreciate it).
Ok, now it’s your turn…plug a friend’s book…….

Well, YOUR book was freakin’ outstanding Amie, but i guess raving about that would be kinda cheating, huh? Or interpreted as sucking up… which i am the Queen of according to some. (grin!)
A wonderful read that’s coming out is Anya Bast’s “Witch Fire.” A teaser trailer can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSqi3N_f6hM
or on Anya’s blog at http://anyabastblog.com/
She won FOUR awards for the trailer and it does work well to create excitement for the book release. Witch Fire comes out June 5th, 2007 from Berkley Sensation and the promo blurb is: Mira Hoskins doesn’t know she’s a natural born witch who possesses the rare–and powerful–element of air. She also never expected to find herself tied to a mahogany bed frame, captive to a man who aches to fulfill her every desire and let loose the magick that dwells inside her…
Heat emanates from elemental fire witch Jack McAllister. The Coven, a governing authority of witches, has sent him to protect Mira from a band of warlocks who drain witches of power… and life. Long ago, he saw Mira’s parents murdered by this same dark magick. He’d like to quell his guilt and offer her everything she deserves. But she’s the long-lost cousin of his boss–making seduction off-limits.
With Jack’s strong guidance, Mira is luring forth her inner magick. But his sense of duty is quickly swelling into insatiable hunger. They warned him about the natural attraction between air and fire. Now he risks being consumed by the woman he shouldn’t want–but can’t stay away from …
This book is totally hot, extremely well written, and the story snares you so completely that it’s one of those “don’t put it down until you hit the last page” books.
It hasn’t hit the stores yet and I want the next one in the series NOW!
does it have to be a romance type book?
Of course not!
goody goody
A friend of mine–BONNIE PEMBERTON–wrote this wonderful fanciful book–THE CAT MASTER published by Marshall Cavendish. She and I belong to the same multi-genre crit group and I have heard this book twice and loved it more each time.
here is the Amazon blurb:
it says for ages 9 to 12 but really I think ANY age will enjoy this book! You can’t help but love all the characters. Personally, I LOVE this book and would recommend it to any and everyone–and the fact that I know her makes it even cooler!
How much is child labor going for these days?
ummmm - Amie - did you get the REALLY long post i sent this morning pimping Anya’s upcoming book Witch Fire?
Raine..ubber cheap!
OMG! I’m sorry! You guys know I have a smiley addiction. Anywho. The friend I am plugging is no other than MS. Shelli Stevens and her book Dating Season. I read it in its early stages, loved it and love it still. It’s hot, super hot and the hero is oh so alpha and yummy.
Well. I haven’t read much of anything lately. Which is sad. I think the last think I read was your Rafe WIP Ames. LOL The last published novel I read was Prom Dates From Hell and I’m really not a friend of Rosemary, so I’m not sure that counts either.
God. I suck.
If you’ve not read Cassandra Curtis’s “I Put a Spell on You” and “Shifting Tides: Beneath a Midnight Sea,” then you should. I’m not saying this because she’s my friend. Both are riveting stories, I couldn’t put them down. And they made me smile.
but i guess raving about that would be kinda cheating, huh?
Don’t mind me…rave away
Emma step away from teh smileys! LOL I love Shelli’s work!
Dennie….Tempest…..Rhian I’m taking notes!
