One More Time
I have a confession to make.
When it was first released in theaters, I actually saw the original Raiders of the Lost Ark seventeen times.
Now, before you think I’m a little crazy (yeah, I know, that ship has sailed, lol!), I should explain. That was back in the day. You could go to a theater, pay for your ticket, and stay to see the movie as long as you wanted.
For weeks in a row, I’d take my sister’s kids to that movie, and they thought it was glorious. A little popcorn, water, fruit punch or Coke, a hotdog or two, and we had all-day entertainment that never seemed to get dull. Of course, it wasn’t long before we could recite the sucker line-for-line, and since we were often the only ones in the theater, it was like being a part of the movie. Great stuff!
I think we often return to the films—and books—that make us feel good for whatever reason. I know I have a few keeper-books that I’ll pick up and re-read when I’ve simply had it with ‘newer’ stuff that just isn’t doing it for me.
Now. Confess. (you can tell me…it’ll be just between us…)
Whether it’s your favorite film, a particular novel, or series on DVD—whatever. How many times have you gone back to it one more time?

oooh good question…
books: I have re-read Beverly Connor’s Lindsey Chamberlain series several times - out of order - certain passages - just love that series - (probaly like five times)
there are others but not like that…
Movies: too many to name - but I have seen Pride and Prejudice 6 times - both the new on and the Colin Firth version and I have see Grease and Grease II a BILLION times (two is my absoulte FAVE!)
Books: Jill’s The Rancher’s Surrender and The Nora’s Tears of the Moon
Movies - been known to do a LOTR marathon from time to time. Bebo and I have a Raider’s of the Lost Ark thing going with Disney’s The Three Musketeers (the one with Keifer Sutherland, Oliver Platt and Charlie Sheen) where we treat it like Rocky Horror Picture Show and yell back at the screen. Hmmmm, haven’t watched that one in a while.
LOL Bailey - I will have to watch that moive
I have never seen it - but if it warrants that from you - I wanna check it out!
I’m so predictable…..INDEPENDENCE DAY and ENEMY OF THE STATE. Sad but true and it’s NOT just Will Smith (though apparently he has quite the knack for picking great scripts because iRobot sorta ranks up there too.
Legally BLonde (1 and 2). I know sad again but it’s so damned funny. You konw, the other day I sat (and I love watching movies from when I grew up with my kids) and watched Drop Dead Fred and I wondered, whatever happened to Phoebe Cates?
Ah, well, Dennie–your billion times certainly makes my 17 seem like nothing, lol!!

(and if you haven’t seen the old OLD version of Pride & Prejudice with Olivier and Garson, it is WONDERFUL!).
Hmmm…The Three Musketeers as Rocky Horror Show…
Okay, I’m beginning to feel more normal all the time…
Ames, good choices.
Enemy was good, and yeah, I’ve seen Independence Day quite a few times–loved it! (who would’ve thought of teaming Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum–but it worked!)
Phoebe who?
I have a LOT of books (over 1200, though that includes my reference books, too). And I’ve only kept the fiction that I periodically re-read. :) For instance, right now I’m re-reading Carola Dunn’s Daisy Dalrymple mystery series.
OH MY. This is a hard one. You do realize that RAIDERS is my all-time favorite movie?? :) So that’s one. When I was 12, TEMPLE OF DOOM was out, and I could sing Anything Goes in Chinese with Willie. Other movies: Star Wars (all the original releases), The Princess Bride, Phantom of the Opera, Casablanca, Gone With The Wind. I suppose this would go on the DVD list too. haha
Books: Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia A. McKillip; The Road To Paradise Island by Victoria Holt. Those are the two books that made me want to start writing.
Great post!
Tori, I’ve never counted all my books (think I’m afraid to know how many there are!)…

But over 1200??!!
You ROCK, girl!
…RAIDERS is my all-time favorite movie??…
Mik, you are a woman of great taste.
I’m not quite sure what my FAVORITE movie is–but I’ve definitely SEEN that one the most, lol.
I don’t watch movies or read books over again. They just don’t hold my attention the second time, because I know what is going to happen.
EStella I don’t usually read books again either, but I do save them LOL
Estella, I understand what you’re saying.
I don’t think it’s the plot that brings me back to these things, though, because you’re right–you know what’s coming the second time around…
So it must be something else…characters, film or prose quality, atmosphere, fun factor, something else about it that draws me, that I can relate to.
Or else I’m just a lune, lol.
Tori - and Raine - I have about 1150 books - AND they are in a spread sheet -
I know sad - but I kept buying the same books over again so I did the spread sheet - I have only done that once since then (and it was becuase I hadn’t imputed the first one
)
Dennie, that’s…wow.
(and no, I’m still not going to count my books–ever).
I have seen/read Pride and Prejudice countless times. I just love it. Harry Potter series has been read about 7 by me.
Good choices, Mahaira!
I have never read Harry Potter. Rather ashamed of that…
