OMG – Do you know who you are….
Please tell me I am not the only one who gets “star struck” when they run across authors they admire.
I thought this might be something I would get over once I myself became a published author. But apparently being a dorky fan is not something easily erased. Just the other day I was clicking on some of the links at the side and came upon a website with pictures. I scanned them briefly and then did a triple take. “That can’t be… naw, that’s not…” but upon further investigating it was who I thought it was. (I shant bore you with the details as I don’t wanna embarrass the poor gal w/ my gushing) but suffice it to say when I spotted someone I know and like in the links, I spent half and hour perusing her website. I even almost called Amie and said “Did you know so and so is over there?”
I was giddy, giddy I tell you.
Nationals excites me as must as it scares me to death. It’d be like a shop-aholic coming across an 90% off sale – I am THAT bad! I see people and have to fight hard to refrain from pointing and giggling. I have a made a point not to get any where near Nora that would require conversation… I tend to gush and it can get quite embarrassing.
I spoke to Brenda Novak at nationals and it was all I could do not to leave the silly grin on my face and stop someone saying, “Look who’s talking to ME . . . on purpose, no less.”
I suppose if I ever get out of that awe it will be a sad, far too full of myself not to get a swift kick to the ass kinda day (wheshew that was a mouthful!)
Who do you gush over, avoid to keep from gushing over and all time fave to talk to? Let me know and you could win a pair of totally faboo-socks!
Incidentally – this DOES NOT seem to be a problem when I run into certain men (well, only one in particular) – then I clam up and examine the change in my pocket – go figure….

You totally have to tell us who on the sidebar you were squeeing over!
Besides Chris, I’d totally go blank for SEP (probably Nora too). FWIW I went blank for Derryl Dodd too–and I of all people should be over that.
Hmmm…the only authors I can think of that I’d gush over are pretty much dead. So I guess they wouldn’t mind…
Oh, wait, I take it back…Ray Bradbury. He’d do it to me. Also a bit of La Nora–but then, I’d probably just stand there like an idiot.
Men? Maybe Sean Connery. Mebbe. I don’t impress easily.
I’ll never tell……
The Shalvis. Yep, I’d be blind, deaf and dumb.
As far as the men - Hugh Jackman, of course.
Personally, any author I met would make me ’stutter, stare in awe and whatever. I have never met an author from all the sites I go to.
I’d be the same if I came across actors/actresses; you see I come from a very small town where we are all ordinary people in our own way.
Now, if I could meet David James Elliott from JAG I’d be ’star struck’ and ‘open mouthed’ with nothing to say.
Robyn is it any consolation we all feel the same way?
I would probably make an utter fool of myself if I ever met Heather Graham … or Sherrilyn Kenyon.
As far as men go…Gerard Butler would have me speechless and blushing.
But hey, I’d give it a chance just to see him in person… just once.
Hey Robyn… I am in awe of everyone - I run across folks I know people “know” and I blabber…. never at a loss to speak - right Ames….
Meg - at nationals a couple of years ago a friend (who shall rename namesless) herdled me to get to Christine Feehan - still cracks me up!
oh and - thanks for stopping by… if y’all both e-mail me you snail mail addy I will send you some socks!
Nora’s a given. Iris Johansen, MaryJanice Davidson, Lilith Saintcrow, Judith McNaught… Oh, well the list is endless. Needless to say, all these talented people and plenty more besides, make me gush. Is that silly of me?
Not silly at all
But I was thinking put me up next to a sports person and I’d talk to them sure but gush… well, Mike Modano maybe, but no one else gets to me …
Basketball players would totally have me drooling!
Ladies, you probably don’t know me so please forgive me for barging into your blog this way, but on behalf of authors can I just tell you what a thrill it is for us to meet people like you? The first time someone approached me in person and told me they loved my work I was high for days. So please know that for *most* of us, meeting YOU is big thrill for us as well.
Thanks for your comments Katheryn - I never really thought of it that way - I am so new to the published world that *NO ONE* knows me yet - but some day…
[…] I thought about sending her a note telling her how much I enjoyed it – but then I didn’t. I realize that authors love to hear kudos for their work, but I felt kinda silly. Now put Nora in front of me and I gush like a looney-headed nimrod. But for some reason I felt weird about e-mailing Miss Stillings and letter her know. Here’s what I would have said: […]
